Missions - Cross-Cultural Studies

This cluster of courses helps the missionary to be willing and able to make greater efforts to communicate the Gospel. This is accomplished through emphasis on cultural adaptation, social integration, psychological penetration and spiritual identification. The result should be deep, lasting, contagious and vital ministries for missionaries.

MICS 112.World Area Studies

This course is a study in geography with an emphasis on world demographics, particularly as it relates to the distribution of major world religions. Concepts such as the 10/40 and Turkic windows may be explored. 2 hours

MICS 121. Introduction to Islam

This course is an overview of the Muslim faith and practice with an emphasis on comparisons to Christianity. The purpose is to understand Islam more fully in order to live and work in Muslim settings. 2 hours

MICS 132. Introduction to Folk Religions

This course is a study of the nature of folk religion (animism). Beliefs and practices are reviewed as they are reflected in human experi­ence. The influence of folk religion on world religions is studied and evaluated biblically. 2 hours

MICS 141. Introduction to Catholicism

This course is an overview of Catholic dogma and practices for the purposes of witnessing with relevance in Catholic settings. 2 hours

MICS 212. Cultural Anthropology

This course is an introduction of the concepts of cultural anthropology, which assist missionaries in their adaptation and ministry in cross-cultural situations. (Same as BSPT 212) 2 hours

MICS 311. Phonetics

Students are introduced to the sound system of human language. Special attention is given to linguistic principles, which underlie the sound system. (Odd years) 3 hours

MICS 321. Language Structure

Students are introduced to the sentence level structure of human languages. Special attention is given to the universal structure and principles which underlie the sentence. (Even years) 3 hours

MICS 411. Cross-Cultural Communications

Prerequisite: MICS 212 or BSPT 212. This is a concentrated study of the factors essential in communicating biblical concepts cross-culturally. This would include basic principles in language learning. (Same as BSPT 411) 2 hours

MICS 422. Phonology

Prerequisite:MICS311.Studentsareintroduced to the universal and specific properties of the sound structure of human language. Special attention is given to problem solving. (Even years) 3 hours

MICS 432. Language Workshop

Prerequisite: MICS 321. Students solve language problems. Special attention is given to a formalized explanation. (Odd years) 3 hours

Missions - Missions Theology

Without missions, New Testament churches dissipate and theology stagnates. This cluster of courses traces the scriptural basis of our mandate, message, methodology and motivation.

MIMT 111. Biblical Theology of Missions

This course is an introduction to the definition of missions and the scriptural basis of Christian missions. 2 hours

MIMT 211. Biblical Foundations of Ministry

This course is a study of the scriptural functions and forms of ministry, with an emphasis on the local church. Attention is given to the philosophy and policies of the Baptist Bible Fellowship International. (Same as BSPT 211) 2 hours

MIMT 222. Personal Development of Women in Ministry

This course directs the development of the female student into biblical womanhood. Emphasis is given to the spiritual and emotional maturity of the female in cross-cultural ministry. 2 hours

MIMT 432. Issues in Theology

The study of contemporary theological positions, including a survey of the philosophical and theological thought leading up to the present scene. (Same as BSST 432) 3 hours

MIMT 451. Apologetics

Students are introduced to the major theological positions in apologetics. They develop a biblical system which will enable them to present the gospel to adherents of world religions. (Same as BSST 441) 3 hours

Missions - Practical Studies

Practical instruction inspires and stimulates creativity. While the message remains the same, the methods of ministry vary from place to place and time to time. Therefore, this cluster of courses inspires the student with practical information which demonstrates that missionary work can be done and is being done. These practical studies can also stimulate the student to do some creative thinking. He will be able to take what is working in one place and adapt it to the needs of another ministry.

MIPS 202. The Church and Missions

This course emphasizes the promotion of world missions within the local church through the education, motivation and involvement of its members. (Same as BSPT 202) 2 hours

MIPS 311. Missionary Life and Work (Men)

This course is a practical study of the missionary’s life and work which includes his personal preparation, internship, deputation, departure and arrival on the field, first term and furlough. 2 hours

MIPS 312. Planting the Indigenous Church

This course is a study of the biblical principles and methods of planting a church. Special emphasis is given to indigenous principles as they relate to church planting and leadership training. (Same as BSPS 322) 2 hours

MIPS 321. Women’s Cross-Cultural Ministries

This course emphasizes the spiritual, academic and practical areas of the student. Special emphasis is given to her call, education, expectations, candidate school and internship. 2 hours

MIPS 322. Missionary Life and Work (Women)

This course assists the student in practical preparation for living in respective field of service. Attention is given to deputation, departure and arrival on the field, ministry and re-entry into the mother culture. 2 hours

MIPS 332. Practical Missions Theology

This course deals with special spiritual functions which relate to the male missionary’s ministry. Emphasis is also given to the personal development of the student. 3 hours

MIPS 411. Global Health and Nutrition

This course is an introduction to the possible health issues of those who live and work in cross-cultural settings. Special emphasis is placed on potential prevention of illness through proper nutrition and other preventative measures. 2 hours.

MIPS 422. Interpersonal Missionary Relationships

This course discusses interpersonal relationships, possible reasons for interpersonal conflicts that may occur and possible resolutions. This course also emphasizes practical issues that relate to women when living and working abroad. 2 hours

MIPS 451. Business and Finance

This course discusses interpersonal relationships, possible reasons for interpersonal conflicts that may occur and possible resolutions. This course also emphasizes practical issues that relate to women when living and working abroad. 2 hours

MIPS 461. Missions History and Strategies

This course is a study of missions history from the perspective of strategy, as well as successful contemporary strategies across the globe. 2 hours MIPS 490. Directed Field Studies This course balances academic understanding of cross-cultural ministry with actual cross-cultural experience in a foreign culture. 3 hours
